As the question of the rectitude of The Bahamas’ new approach to immigration continues to get traction in the international media, the Associated Press has come out with a nicely rounded article on the issue, quoting affected migrants, the government, and activists, while also noting the popularity of the new policy among the Bahamian public. The article, which is longer than the AP’s typically brief, attention-grabbing pieces on sinking sloops, crimes against tourists, and celebrity scandals, highlights the controversial nature of the policy the government has decided to take in the eyes of those outside our borders. Kudos to The Tribune’s Ava Turnquest, also a freelancer for the A.P., for her job on this one.
